Purpose: The "Bimini Twist Knot" is used most often in saltwater fishing where a "shock tippet" or very heavy double line is called for; it is the most difficult of knots to tie for most flyfishers. |
Step 1: To tie this knot you need a "try line" that is at least 5' (yes, feet) long. Double the end of the "try line" so that it overlaps about 4' & twist it around itself about 20 times . . .
|
Step 2: Pull all 4 "ends" apart,
forcing the twists tightly together & leaving a wide loop;
|
Step 3: Keeping the twists tight, wind the tag end of the line back over the 20 twists;
|
Step 4: Continue
winding until you reach the loop;
|
Step 5: Hold the twists in your left hand & tie an overhand knot around one side of the loop with your right . . .
|
Step 6: And then tie one on the other side of the loop . . . |
Step 7: Wind the tag end around the loop 3 times & bring the end back through underneath itself . . .
We'll leave you to your own devices as to how to keep control of this knot as it's tied; some people use their knees, feet, elbows, etc. |
Step 6: Slowly pull on the running line and the loop to cinch up the knot tightly.
