National Fishing in Schools Program                                                              

 

Katie Cole

Katie Cole is the Education Director for The School of FlyFishing.  She also serves as the Program Manager for The National Fishing in Schools Program.  Essentially, she is responsible for our education programs.  Katie works with her father in developing, directing and teaching the NFSP's varied activities.

Katie is a 32-year-old native of Lincoln, Nebraska.  She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated from Prescott College in Arizona.  She has a degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Environmental Education and a minor in Adventure Education.

Katie has 20 years of experience in fly fishing.  She learned from her father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  She has taught and guided fly fishing professionally in Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Washington.  She has caught Bluegill and Green Sunfish; Largemouth, Smallmouth and Rock Bass; Rainbow, Brown, Brook and Cutthroat Trout; Northerns and Walleyes; and frogs on flies.  

As a staff member of the University of Nebraska Outdoor Adventures Program and companion program in Arizona,she lead student trips in many locations in the US.  She ties flies, builds rods and studied in Baja, Mexico,where she swam with whales & sea lions. She holds certifications in Wilderness First Responder and Swift Water Rescue and has a passion for sharing the outdoors and fishing with others. 

When not teaching Outdoor Courses, administering the "Fishing in Schools" program, she likes to hunt (with her setter, "Lady"), climb (rock, ice), scuba dive, sea kayak and bicycle.
