These relatively large caddis flies occur primarily in slow-flowing streams and lakes.  Early larva build stick cases, and where mollusks are available, develop shell cases almost entirely.  Pupa usually dark brown-orange.  On emergence, swim quickly to surface in pulsing motion visible to fish.
