This is a major species on American rivers, particularly in the east. Larva live in swift riffles, and build tapered cases of plant fibers that are square in cross section. 5/8ths". Pupa develop in weedy shallows and migrate to surface to hatch. Close cousins of the Rocky Mountains & Pacific Coast tend to mix in with other insects.
