Larva build spiral-shaped cases of vegetation and live in the weeds of lakes and ponds. Burrow into bottom detritus when pupating. Hatch in open water after swift ascent to surface. Hatches late afternoon and evening leaving erratic spiraling patterns visible in the surface film. Fish love these agile swimmers.
