Flies have bodies that are intended to imitate the natural insect or bait.  They are somewhat limited in length and breadth due to fact they are tied or affixed to a finite-size hook shank.

Materials used to create bodies are the most varied of all fly parts.  Fly tyers are always searching out new materials that are more representative of the natural the fly attempts to suggest. Yarns, silk, feathers, cork, latex, fur, plastic, foam, chenille, mylar, epoxy are just a few.

Body shape is influenced by bulk of materials, hook shape (of which there are many), and layering of materials.  Length is exaggerated by use of long feathers, fur or synthetic materials extending well beyond the bend of the hook.
