Gravel guards

Product Shot

A "gravel guard" is a garment used with stocking foot waders that covers the top of your wading boots.  (They are also called "gaiters".)  Their purpose is to keep out gravel, dirt, grit, etc., that cause abrasion that is tough on boots, waders and the "wader" (you.)  They also offer protection from punctures.

Pictured here is one of the cheapest ways to go:  an “aftermarket” product, "guards" made specifically for the purpose.  There are "wrap-around" styles with a zipper or velcro closure; or, an oversized pair of socks that fit over your stocking foot waders and that are long enough to pull over your boot tops is cheaper yet.  Also available are "wading socks" that have built-in gravel guards.  Usually made of closed cell neoprene, these products also add warmth.  (See separate section, "wading socks".)

Additionally, many stocking foot waders now come with built-in guards that provide the easiest, most secure protection.  Gravel guards are a practical item that will add comfort to your fishing years and years to the life of your stocking foot waders, wading boots and you, the wader.
