Tackle, including fly rods, reels, lines and leaders, are not covered in this course.  There is a separate course for each of these topics.

Wading belt

The wading belt is a multi-purpose device that serves the fly fisher in several ways:

1.  it gives you a sense of security when wading;
2.  it is a safety measure: to impede the inflow of water into your waders if you fall in when wading;
3.  it assists your suspenders in holding up your waders;
4.  it "slims up" the area around your waist which can contribute to ease of movement, casting, etc.;
5.  it helps to keep you warm when its really cold (keeps heat inside your waders; by the same token, keeps cool in, too);

Most quality waders come with a wading belt with their purchase. Some newer chest high waders come with an adjustable suspender system which doubles as a wader belt when the wader is "rolled down" to a shorter waist-high length.
