"Salmon flies" . . .      "salmon flies" refers to flies that are used to fish for Atlantic Salmon.

As the sport of fly fishing was moving from "east-to-west", the Atlantic Salmon carved out its own fly fishing approach and class of flies that is "different" than other species and styles.

NOTE:  the term "salmon flies" is also used to refer to a specific group of insects in the stonefly family as well as the flies used to imitate them.
