Tackle, including fly rods, reels, lines and leaders, are not covered in this course.  There is a separate course for each of these topics.

Reel bags

Your fly reels deserve a place of "safe harbor", and the reel bag ("case" or "pouch") is a critical part of that process.  It is our suggestion that each of your fly reels has its own protective reel bag.

These are not overly sophisticated or expensive items.  They come in just a few styles and types, but are designed specifically for the purpose of reel protection and storage. Made in leather, neoprene, nylon, etc., most are padded to some degree.  Some are designed to fit over the reel while it is attached to a rod.

The important thing is to have a suitable storage/carrying container for each reel.  Some fly fishers carry extra reel spools, and these, too, should be carried in reel bags.

This is an inexpensive investment in the safekeeping of your fly reels that will reward you in the long run over your fly fishing career.
