Hat

Well, yes, it's a "cowboy hat", but this horse-riding angler likes it and his hat does perform
its necessary functions:
1. it covers his head;
2. it shades his eyes from the sun;
3. it protects his face, nose, neck and ears from the sun's harmful rays;
4. it keeps a light rain at bay (for awhile);
5. it's just odd enough looking that it says, "I'm fly fishing . . . don't
bug me!"
There are specialized hats with expanded bills, sides and back, designed
for fishing in extreme sun conditions such as saltwater. Some
"legionnaire-styles" have a "neck drape" that is often seen on
saltwater flats.
Other than that, unless you want/need a hat that repels rain, any that
meet the above criteria are fine.
