Tackle, including fly rods, reels, lines and leaders, are not covered in this course.  There is a separate course for each of these topics.

Clippers

Clippers are one of the indispensable accessories for fly fishers.  They are usually attached to a "retractable pin-on reel" (or "zinger") affixed to your vest by pin or clamp.  Clippers get repeated and frequent use.

Clippers should be kept close at hand.  Most often they are affixed to the upper lapel area of a vest or shirt, on the side opposite your dominant hand.

You will find many uses for clippers:
1.  trimming leader tippets after tying on a fly;
2.  trimming hackle or fraying on flies;
3.  cutting leader tippet sections from tippet spools;
4.  trimming fingernails;
5.  trimming tag ends on knots;

We suggest avoiding the standard "fingernail clippers" style, as the "handle" seems to catch on everything.  Several alternate styles are available at little, if any, additional cost.

Styles are also available with added functionality, such as knot tying tool, hook hone, hook eye cleaner, etc.
